Diwali festivities start with Dhanteras. On this day, devotees worship the Hindu God of Ayurveda, Dhanvantari<\/strong><\/a>. The Dhan in Dhanteras refers to wealth and teras means the 13th day. According to the Hindu calendar, Dhanteras, which is deemed to be one of the most auspicious days, is observed on the thirteenth day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Ashwin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year Dhanteras will be celebrated on October 22. The Dwadashi Tithi is predicted to be in effect on the auspicious day of Dhanteras according to Drikpanchang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Dhanteras 2022 Puja Vidhi<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    According to Hindu rituals, people purchase various items like utensils to mark the festival. People prefer purchasing items made of gold and silver such as jewelry, coins and bars. While performing the puja, the purchased items are offered to Goddess Dhanvantari.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Dhanteras is celebrated in order to ensure the good health of one\u2019s family and close relatives. On this day, all diseases are said to be cured by Lord Dhanvantari on worshipping him with devotion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    There are seven different reasons<\/strong><\/a> why different parts of India celebrate Diwali, which is being celebrated today:<\/h1>\n\n\n\n
    1. According to Ramayana, Lord Rama, his wife Sita and brother Laxman finally returned to Ayodhya after spending 14 years in exile and defeating the demon king Raavana. Diwali marks his return to his home.<\/li>
    2. According to the most popular tradition, Diwali is celebrated as the day Goddess Lakshmi was born from Samudra Manthan, the churning of the cosmic ocean of milk by the gods and demons. Lakshmi chose Vishnu as her husband on the night of Diwali, and the two were bonded in holy matrimony.<\/li>
    3. In the epic Mahabharata, the five Pandeva brothers had been tricked into losing a bet in gambling after which the Kauravas banished them for 12 years. As per the epic, Diwali is the day on which the Pandeva’s return to Hastinapur on the night of Kartik Amavasya.<\/li>
    4. In Sikhism, Diwali is related to the event of Guru Hargobind\u2019s release by Mughal emperor Jehangir.<\/li>
    5. In Jainism, the festival of Diwali is celebrated to observe the anniversary of Mahavira\u2019s soul finally attaining Nirvana.<\/li>
    6. In some states in western India, such as Gujarat, the festival of Diwali signifies the start of a new year.<\/li>
    7. Eastern India, especially West Bengal, celebrates Diwali as Kali Puja, in honour of Goddess Kali, who is known to have gone on a destructive rampage to cleanse the earth of all demons.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
